The 12th annual International Transgender Day of Visibility (ITDOV) created by transgender advocate Rachel Crandall, takes place on March 31, 2021. ITDOV recognizes the many contributions, accomplishments, and victories of people within the transgender, non-binary, and gender-diverse communities.  It is also a time for raising awareness of on-going physical and emotional violence against trans people, especially Black and Brown trans women. Empowering the trans community means helping them live comfortable and proudly in their truth.

At 180 Turning Lives Around (180), we celebrate and honor our trans, non-binary, and/or gender-nonconforming siblings this week and every week of the year. Unfortunately, in addition to experiencing high rates of domestic and sexual violence, trans and non-binary people are often the targets of transphobic hate crimes and state violence. We recognize that the need to feel safe is paramount. We cultivate a safe, confidential, and empowering environment for transgender survivors of domestic and sexual violence. No one should be denied the basic rights that enable their safety and security, regardless of their orientation and identity. No one should ever be subjected to violence simply because of their gender identity or expression.

180 provides free supportive services including confidential 24/7 hotlines. 180 has trained advocates who assist victims by providing emotional support, resources, and accompaniment during hospital forensic examinations and police procedures, and court liaisons who help victims through the court restraining order process. 180 provides counseling and support groups, as well as a safe house that provides emergency shelter for individuals and their children, and a Family Justice Center that provides coordinated services for survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, child abuse, and human trafficking that are proven to save lives.

If you or someone you know has been a victim of domestic violence, please call our 24/7 Confidential Hotline at 1-888-843-9262. 180’s  24/7 Confidential Sexual Violence Hotline is 1-888-264-7273.
